Retirement Unpacked

About

Alexander Martinez

My name is Alexander Martinez. I'm 21 years old, currently a senior studying finance, and I'm building a career in financial planning and advisory services.

I hold the FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) certification and have passed the Series 65, the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination.

Why I Built This Site

I'm young and early in my career; I haven't spent 20 years managing portfolios or advising clients. What I can offer instead is genuine curiosity, a disciplined approach to learning, and the initiative to build something useful before anyone asked me to.

The most powerful force in investing is time, and it rewards the people who start early far more than anyone else. A dollar invested at 22 has decades to grow on itself before it's ever needed; the same dollar invested at 40 never quite catches up, no matter how much more you add later. Someone who begins in their twenties can contribute less overall and still retire with more, simply because their money spent longer compounding. That advantage is quiet yet enormous; most people only recognize it once it's already behind them.

That is exactly why the choices you make young matter so much. Most people my age aren't thinking about retirement or long-term savings yet, and I find these topics genuinely interesting, not because they're exciting on the surface, but because the decisions people make with these tools shape the rest of their financial lives. A 25-year-old who understands the difference between a Traditional and a Roth 401(k) and chooses well could be hundreds of thousands of dollars better off by retirement. That kind of leverage is what drew me to this field.

I built this site to organize what I've learned and to share it in a way that's actually useful. For me it's more than coursework; it's the first real step on the path I'm building toward.

Who This Is For

This site is written first for young people, the ones who have the most to gain from good decisions and the least guidance available to them. When you're just starting out, the financial industry often isn't built for you; account minimums, advisory fees, and dense paperwork all assume you already have wealth to manage. The people who would benefit most from choosing well early are frequently the ones least likely to get clear help doing it.

My goal is to close that gap. Whether you're opening your first 401(k), weighing a Roth against a Traditional IRA, or starting to save for a child's education, you deserve to understand your options well enough to choose what genuinely fits your life and your family, rather than defaulting to whatever was put in front of you. Good decisions shouldn't require hiring someone first; they require understanding, and that's what I'm trying to make freely available here.

What I'm Working Toward

My long-term goal is to build a career in financial planning, whether that means joining an established firm or eventually running my own practice. I'm focused on retirement planning and tax-advantaged savings because that's where clear, accessible guidance is most needed and hardest to find. Down the road, I plan to pursue the CFP® certification, the standard for comprehensive financial planning, to deepen the expertise behind everything I share here.

The people I most want to serve one day are the ones I'm writing for now: individuals and families who want to build a secure future and simply need someone to explain, honestly and clearly, how to do it.
